Cross-Cultural, Diversity
Growing up in Florida, I've been exposed to a wide range of cultures. South Florida, where I spent my earliest years and my teen years, is home to an influx of people from many diverse cultures. From the islands nearest to Florida, like Jamaica, Haiti, Trinidad, Cuba to South America, many people called South Florida home. I was influenced by and loved the music of these cultures and marveled at the many languages being spoken and the unique fashion.
My classes have had a very diverse population of students for my entire teaching career. Teaching in Florida, I have had a large number of bilingual students and students with English as their second language. They are some of my favorite students!Â
As I was growing up, we generally moved every 4 to 6 years, so I am used to my home changing over time. I love to travel. I've been to Sienna, Florence and Rome in Italy; Bethlehem, Jerusalem & Jericho in Israel; Amman and Petra in Jordan. Frequently I travel to Canada to see my brother and his family. I've been to Edmonton, Toronto and Vancouver in Canada. Our whole family went to the Bahamas recently as well.
